Golden façade made of special mesh: National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing
The Xinghai metal mesh impressively encases the main hall of the theater over a large area.
The main hall of the National Centre for the Performing Arts is fully cladded with 160 mesh panels of the Xinghai special fabric measuring up to 10 m in length and 6.70 m in width. This mesh type was developed specifically for the building.
Woven from stainless steel wires and aluminum wires anodized in various shades of gold, the metal fabric was manufactured according to the specifications of the French architect Paul Andreu. A total of 5400 m² of metal mesh were mounted and tensioned on the substructure using round rods and eyebolts, giving the façade an impressive appearance.
