Hofer Vliesstofftage: Inspiring exchange of ideas

When 390 nonwovens experts from all over Europe get together, GKD – GEBR. KUFFERATH AG simply has to be there. For decades now, this international leader in the development and production of application-specific high-performance woven mesh belts has been a highly sought-after solutions partner for the demanding nonwovens sector. So, at the 30th Hofer Vliesstofftage (Hof Nonwovens Symposium), GKD's business unit WEAVE IN MOTION was represented by a team of four experts. The focus was on technological exchange with nonwovens producers and equipment manufacturers. At the same time, the symposium also offered the opportunity to establish new contacts and deepen established relationships.

In 21 specialist talks, leading speakers from industry and research presented new developments, innovative production processes and finishing methods for nonwovens. The topic Industry 4.0 – the networking of the real and the virtual world in the Internet of Things – featured prominently in the presentations. The nonwovens industry is responding to the increasing individualisation of products with highly flexible and efficient production, and a key role in such processes is played by process belts made by GKD. Thanks to the combination of practical consultancy, purposeful development and production of application-specific high-performance belts that it offers, GKD has an established reputation for process belt solutions that are both effective and cost-efficient.

At the 30th Hofer Vliesstofftage, the GKD belt experts were present for the third time with their own stand at the trade exhibition in the foyer of the Freiheitshalle in Hof, which accompanies the symposium every year. In lively dialogues with users and equipment manufacturers, the team from Düren in the Rhineland discussed new challenges, processes and potential for further optimisation. The discussions revolved around three main topics. In addition to the optimisation of demanding forming and thermobonding processes, visitors to the stand were also keen to find out more about TRACKMATIC belts. The mesh experts discussed these issues with the specialist visitors from all over Europe, also with reference to sample exhibits of how the mesh constructions can be custom-configured to provide the specific features the individual customer needs. With their excellent cross-stability, optimal running properties – even at high speeds – absolute flatness and non-marking seams, GKD process belts are held in high regard in the nonwovens sector. Specifically modified material compositions, innovative coatings or self-guiding special solutions have made this technological leader a sought-after partner, even more so now in view of the currently soaring demand for further process optimisation. And the days in Hof certainly generated plenty of starting points for further discussions with users and equipment manufacturers. Michael Seelert, Business Unit Manager of WEAVE IN MOTION, looks back on the symposium with complete satisfaction: “The fact that all the major players in the European nonwovens sector get together under one roof makes the Hofer Vliesstofftage a key event in our calendar. This year, once again, we enjoyed a wide variety of promising and technologically inspiring conversations.”
