“We will gladly take Premier Wen Jiabao by his word and view China as an opportunity,” said Dr. Stephan Kufferath, Managing Director of the technical weaver GKD – Gebr. Kufferath AG on Thursday on his return from China. He had been part, as one of the few representatives of mid-tier enterprises, of the 25-strong business delegation which accompanied Federal Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel on her second Asia trip to China. One of the reasons for the Chancellor’s personal invitation to join the delegation was GKD’s years of involvement in the People’s Republic. GKD has been present in the Middle Kingdom since the 1980s and has been running a production facility of its own in Beijing since 2004 in response to the significance of the Chinese market. The technical weaver is officially recognized in China as a high-tech enterprise. In China, GKD produces mainly for the local market, but also serves key markets all over the world from there. Architectural projects like the Shanghai Formula One Racing Circuit or currently the Chinese National Grand Theater in Beijing count among the numerous reference projects in the Middle Kingdom, as do process belts for the world’s greatest market for fruit juice production or filter system solutions in the energy sector.
