In spite of economic difficulties in the business environment and of the general trend in the industry, the world’s leading technical weaving mill for high-quality technical meshes made of metal and plastic, GKD – Gebr. Kufferath AG, managed once again in 2003 to increase group turnover compared to the previous year. From 47.4m euro in 2002, group-wide turnover grew in 2003 by 3.3 percent to 49m euro. Two thirds of the net product was generated in Dueren, the remaining third in subsidiaries abroad. GKD’s three autonomous business units – SOLID WEAVE for filtration and separation, WEAVE IN MOTION for transport and process belt technology, and CREATIVE WEAVE for architecture and design – contributed equally to this positive group result. With 500 employees in seven works – two in Germany, the rest in England, Ireland, Spain, the USA and South Africa, branches in France, China and the United Arab Emirates as well as agents all over the world – this non-listed joint stock company succeeded in maintaining its position as leader of a hotly contested international market. The net operating margin was increased in comparison to all previous years.
